Review: Too Late by Colleen Hoover

too late cover

*5 Stars!*

This one is a FREE, yes you read that right – a FREE CoHo book – head over to Wattpad and check it out. Now for the review part of this post.

Ok, I don’t even know where to begin with this one, but here goes:

This book is batshit crazy. Lets be honest. Its unlike anything that I’ve read by CoHo before, yet it still kept me as hooked as I have come to expect when I read one of her books. Jesus Christ this book was intense.

This was basically me the whole time:

this is too much gif

Straight up in the first paragraph I hate one of the main characters. Asa. He’s our main villain. For those of you who’ve read this already – you know what I mean. That opening PARAGRAPH is intense. What a way to start the book.

Sloan and Carter are our other two main characters and I immediately knew they’d be interesting to watch.

And then HOLY SHIT you find out who Carter and Dalton (his best mate) are and what’s going down and OMG THIS IS CRAY CRAY is basically how you’re already thinking. I’m hating people, I’m loving this idea and holy moly this is gonna be an intense ride. Yep, thats pretty much the though process in the first TWO CHAPTERS of the book. You know you’re in for one hell of a ride.

Also, I pretty much hated Asa the whole time. He’s an asshat and I wanted to punch him in the face from the very beginning. I’ll let you read it for yourself and see what you think.

Sloan has her reasons for why she’s with Asa when he’s such a a-hole to her, and its admirable (kind of) with what her base reason is – but she totally goes about it all wrong. In my opinion she needs to man up a bit and find some other way to help the situation. By the end I wasn’t so annoyed with her – she’s way stronger as a person that I originally thought, but at the beginning I was slightly annoyed and felt like she was weak. As I said, that changed by the end of the book.

Things escalate so damned much in this book. The circle of friends Asa has is just goddamned crazy and they’re all f*ed in the head. Dead set. I would be terrified of Asa, just as Sloan was, he’s certifiable crazy. Seriously.

This is like a train wreck that I couldn’t turn myself away from. I just had to know what was going to happen. We learn a little bit about Asa as it progresses, and I felt for him slightly, but due to his current personality I couldn’t feel anything other than a moment of pity.

I don’t want to ruin things – this is pretty hard to review without writing any spoilers – but let me just say this book just keeps ramping up and up and jesus christ you know something horrible is going to happen, but you don’t know what. When the big finale part starts to happen it was totally unexpected. It didn’t go down how I thought at all.

This book was amazing. I loved Carter as a character and damned if I wouldn’t have fallen in love with him too. This is so much more than your usual CoHo book – so if you haven’t already, then you really need to get onto this one. There’s so much heart and soul in this book but not in the usual way. This one is so much darker than anything CoHo has written before and even though that’s the case I’d love to see her write more books like this, along with her usual writing style. I would also absolutely love if this became a series. A book about Dalton maybe?

Get on this one now! Its intense and crazy and you’ll love it! (I must warn though that there is alot of domestic violence in this and it may cause some triggers for other people).

    1. Hi Brittany,
:-O Never read CoHo! Haha, don’t worry – I only got onto her about a year or two ago.
Yeah, Too Late is pretty intense, so to see if you like CoHo and her style I’d say maybe start with Ugly Love or Maybe Someday. They’re probably my favourites and they’re the ones I started with myself. They’re also stand-alone novels.
Good luck and happy reading 🙂
